Just read something interesting on Times Life on comeback kids. It spoke of Amitabh Bachchan, Sourav Ganguly, Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and the like who have made tremendous comebacks. While the article was a small one tucked somewhere in the corner, it was very thought provoking. Some views to elicit reactions from readers for better understanding.Life is testing us all the times. Look at investment bankers. Almost all have tripped over and fallen from their perched positions. Same goes with those who made it to the IIMs. Suddenly they are having to make big compromises they had never bargained for. Some lessons as I see it
1) Never get over confident: I know of Investment Bankers who has forgotten the term "lacs". Nothing fell short of a "crore". Life can turn its tables on you at any point in time. So remain rooted
2) Never take a position too strongly: Life is not about black and white. It is about thousands of hues of grey. Hence be flexible. While you may enjoy the luxuries of life be mentally tough to take on unpredictable adversaries. Once in a while travel by train or bus. Eat at the cornet restaurant. It does not make you small. Bring balance into life.
3) Stay disciplined: Even on attaining huge glory do not forget the little disciplines of life that has got you there. Whether is about saying your daily prayers or playing with your child every sunday. Or perhaps about your disciplined habit of reading, enjoying music, painting
4) Always do charity: God is instrumental in our success. However that is not to undermine individual hard work and brilliance. But isn't that itself GOD's Gift. So if God has given us riches and fame we need to do our bit for the society. Social responsibilities cannot be relegated to companies only. It is also our responsibility. Such deeds keeps one grounded to reality.
5) Keep the passion alive: This is perhaps the most important aspect. Keep the fire burning in the belly. What ever be the circumstances our passion should never take a back seat. While flexibility is needed, one should not lose sight of one's belief and vision.
6) Discover pleasure in smaller things: Isn't it true that sometimes the food dished out by the street corner restaurant is lot tastier than bigger restaurants. Expensive things are bought many a times because of excess money being there and not necessarily due to proportionate value. Question the concepts of user imagery / badge value etc. While in moderation it seems fine, excessive indulgence or obsessive narcissism needs to be questioned.
7) Cultivate interests: Music, movies, writing, painting, dancing, singing, teaching - Anything will do. But the point being made is to cultivate something in a sincere disciplined fashion. Who knows what might be your alternate career , your second innings.I am sure there are many other points to ponder over which do not come to me now. Hence I look forward to some experiential and inspirational points of view from visitors
