We all come from the organization where people are put up in front when it comes to policies and activities. People make the most of the part of our companies, and its they who carry all the knowledge. i have seen people who create wonders when asked to perform but were never able to transfer that magic to others. My query is on how best we can tap the knowledge gained by our people. What would make them to come forward and put out their gained knowledge to the benefit of others. This is a need for continuous improvement.
My views on this are as follows:-
1) Culture: We need to create a culture that encourages and appreciates the act of knowledge dissemination. Knowledge in today's day and age should not be held too close to the heart. Such a strategy is not relevant today. It is not about keeping ideas locked up somewhere. The structure of today will not be able to provide that security. We are operating in an open system. Hence knowledge dissemination is key to moving on and ahead. The faster we spread knowledge the faster we will implement and fulfil the process. Speed is the essence. More knowledge will lead to more ideas.Hence if one succeeded in generating 2 ideas a year earlier, in the future one will generate perhaps 200 ideas a year. This is something like what our cricketers are doing. Way back in 1976, teams made 200 runs in 60 overs. Today teams are making 200 runs in 20 overs quite easily. Thus the environment is changing and we need to act upon this by ensuring that we have the right culture in the organization on sharing of knowledge.
2) Technology: Whenever it comes to technology there should be only one strategy. Go for the latest and the best. This is a no brainer. But often we do not realize its potential and take a very passive approach. Technology will be the enabler to generate the speed for effective knowledge dissemination and will also provide the platform for various knowledge formats be it text, pictures, sound, footage etc. Technology blooms only when one gets to dabble with it. Hence the need to be agile in adoption. This leads to early discovery of new applications of technology. When it comes to technology one just cannot afford to be a follower. Imagine if this message got generated from a mobile phone instead of a laptop. Time saved could have been easily 8 to 10 hours. In today's day and age that is what is called a head start. This is a world where speed of implementation will matter the most and I feel the right culture and right technology will provide the right platform.Friends I look forward to some sharing
