This morning's TOI had a very interesting piece about how the government has braced itself up after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. To begin with the five star properties have substantially enhanced their security levels. The luxury of driving up to the portico and handing over the keys to the valet will now only be distant memory.
However what comes as some sort of stubborn stupidity on the part of the goverment is the inept response at the CST where it all began on that fateful night.
Let me place my views that it is not about the rich and poor angle. The 5 stars have done their bit at their cost whereas CST which belongs to the government and which is for the aam aadmi seems to be as porous as ever. Clearly the government has been caught napping yet again.
While this was my experience, the article went on the mention that the land for the NSG Commandos inMumbai was caught in red tapism and so was the selection process for this elite squad.
And if something happens these politicians will hide behind the poor versus rich debate .
There seems to be only one strategy left now for political survival which is by division of people on the basis of every possible style. They seem to be saying to themselves, "Divide and let them fight among themeselves while we can take shelter in the confusion".
And as I write this, the time bomb is ticking loud and clear at CST. People are moving around freely within the precincts of this grand structure. There is no frisking whatsoever and what stands there as a symbol of complete apathy and ineptitude are the abandoned metal detectors. The least the government could do is to remove them. But rather they have chosen to have them scattered around to present the inept and insensitive face of the government.
