Bandra Worli makes India proud

While the sea link is truly a marvel, what I found appalling was that Headlines Today had got a so called activist to play filthy spoilsport on a historical day when the sea link was thrown open. While we are all hoping that this is but a beginning, our spoilsport was all ready with statistics comprising of number of people who use cars, number of people who use trains, number of people who use the bicycle and number of people on their legs. And since the foot soldiers had nothing to gain Mr Spoilsport was sounding very upset. The funny thing about democracy is that there are always scores of people with the opposing view. These are the publicity speaking worthless sort who have nothing else to contribute. To look at the ugly side of things is their religion. And a channel like Headlines Today is devaluing itself by speaking to such cynics.
For me this is a marvel and speaks volumes of the course we as a nation have embarked upon.
Some thoughts that come to mind instinctively
  1. An Indian company has put all this together.
  2. Although slow, we have finally completed it. It is always slow and cumbersome the first time but things change afterwards. I am sure the next leg will be smooth and quick.
  3. It will put Mumbai in the google space. The world will once again wake up to India and get prepared to welcome us into the future.
  4. People will use this and will save time to be with their families and thereby lead an enriched life.
  5. People will remain healthier because of lesser traffic related stress. Extra time will make them exercise more as well.
  6. The diversion of cars to the sea link with reduce traffic on the earlier route. Mahim will become decongested and that will improve the health of so many people whose homes dot the erstwhile route.
  7. For those who do not wish to pay the toll, the erstwhile route will become a better and efficient option as compared to the days when there was no alternate route.
  8. The roads leading into the sea link and at the exit will undergo a face lift. Worli side already wears a new look. The filthy corner has got a facelift. Just drove by the other day and was pleasantly surprised.
  9. With one in place, many others will embark on to new projects. It is possible and can be bettered will be the war cry for many ambitious Indians.
  10. Many Indian companies involved in this project will now get contracts across the world and thereby creating another source for earning foreign exchange.
  11. The confidence levels of people at large will soar.

I could go on and on. But I have to stop to write again after I have experienced my first drive over the seas.
