- Break the task into smaller parts. Complete the parts and get others to complete some other parts. Focus on the little aspects and not on the big picture to start with. When the parts aggregate the big picture emerges.
- Therefore the big picture should be recorded in your mind's eye before the commencement of the project. This is called vision. Once the project starts focus on details and get that right.
- Strive for perfection but be comfortable with 80% success. The stress here is on completion and not on perfection ( of course it has to be well above the acceptable limit) The point being made is not to get lost in the maze of perfection. Time is opportunity and should be conserved at all points in time.
- Be disciplined. Be steady. In stead of occasional brilliance, a disciplined and studious approach builds better value.
- Strive for team work. The best team is that in which you cannot spot the brilliant one. Such a team is most robust indeed.
- If you are unable to inculcate the passion about what you have on hand, do not even think of investing your limited and precious time on the project.
- Unless you feel and connect with the team members you will never see optimum results.
- Develop strong communication skills because that is the glue which will make you integral to the project. If you want to be the project and if you want people to see the project in you and not outside of you, you will have to master the art of effective communication.
- Never forget the simple virtues of simplicity, brevity and relevance while designing the jobs that make up the task at hand.
- Invest in inculcating patience for that will be the foundation upon which the structure will take shape. Here your skill of balancing patience and speed will get tested and those who are adroit in playing this part will emerge victors.
- Network effectively. Don't build an unwieldy network. It is bound to work at cross purposes and nullify what appeared as an advantage. The network should be robust, aligned and trustworthy.
- Trust is invaluable. If you identify it, simply cling to it at whatever cost.
While a list like this can go on and on with additional points, the 12 points mentioned above would play a crucial role in your success. You need to cultivate yourself to be able to learn and develop the skills needed to practice the 12 points mentioned here. Any additional points over and above the 12 surely should complement and supplement.
